Homegrown, where design meets the soil.

Meet the team.

Pedro   Deal
Architect   &  Co-Founder

Pedro brings a designer's eye to every space Homegrown builds — structure, proportion, and material honesty, applied to gardens and buildings.

Martin Brum
Horticulturist & Co-Founder

Martin brings the plant and soil knowledge that makes a garden actually thrive — species selection, soil health, and the horticultural detail that turns a good design into a living system.

Homegrown was founded in Byron Bay by an architect and a horticulturist who shared one belief: that a garden shouldn't have to choose between looking good and working well.

We design, build, and grow — combining architectural precision with deep horticultural knowledge, drawing on permaculture, soil biology, and syntropic agroforestry to create spaces that are as productive as they are beautiful. No shortcuts, no treated chemicals, no artificial systems. Just thoughtful design and living soil, done properly.

From backyard vegetable gardens to a industrial rooftop organic farms producing over 400kg of food a month, our work spans homes, restaurants, and workplaces — always grounded in the same principle: good design grows good food.

Expertise

From site planning to the layout of a single garden bed, we design with the same discipline applied to any built space — proportion, flow, material honesty, and how a space will actually be used. Every garden starts as a design problem before it becomes a planting plan, whether it's a backyard, a rooftop, or a full commercial site.

❋ ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN

Plant selection, seasonal timing, companion planting, and the daily knowledge of what actually grows well where. This is the craft that turns a well-designed space into one that produces — season after season, with minimal intervention.

❋ HORTICULTURE
❋ SOIL REGENERATION

Living soil is the foundation of everything we build. We work with soil biology, organic matter, and microbial health to regenerate degraded ground into something genuinely productive — never masking poor soil with synthetic inputs.

❋ Syntropic Systems & PERMACULTURE

We design growing systems that mimic natural ecosystems — layered planting, syntropic agroforestry, and closed-loop thinking that reduces waste and builds resilience over time. The goal isn't just a garden that grows; it's a system that sustains itself.
